Prices and Decisions

You’re in the local convenient store and just want to grab a bottled water. You look at the 30 choices you have and try best to make a quick decision. If you’ve purchased water recently, you probably just stick to the same brand you always get as long as the price doesn’t strike you as abnormally (price of water at sporting events) high. If you don’t know which one to get, most likely you’ll take the one that is the most expensive in the “class” of water your looking for.  If you see one for 89 cents that says “Water” and one that appears to have a french name, be in a different shaped bottle, and claims to be cleaned by God himself and only 5 cents more, then you buy that one.  Is there really anything different…well no. It’s water people.

Often the same goes for website designs. There are probably millions of people out there who can design your site. Some are more knowledgeable than others. Some charge less, some speak your language, some have quicker turn around times, some freelance, some work for large corporations, so do it on the side and some don’t know anything at all.

My prices are cheap.  I sometimes liken to a guy on The Price Is Right who has just bid $1, and then the person beside him bids $2.  Some people like the feeling of paying more b/c they feel as if they are getting something ‘better’.  My warning is simply this…sometimes, it’s not true.

Check sources, know the persons background, see how well they interact and how much they are willing to help you after everything is set up. Will they nickel and dime you away or work with you on smaller changes after you’re set up.

Because sometimes the cheapest water is just as fresh or better than your Acqua Di Cristallo.

Another semi popular theme that I recently put to use is the Atahualpa theme. A few tweeks were done for the menu and the header. Some sidebar info was pulled over from a previous blogger site with her permalink structure, and bada-boom, another happy customer. This blogger barely needed my help though as she knew what to do for pretty much everything, hands down!

Adrienne has by far the funniest and most heart warming stories of her family.  She allows all types of criticism, but doesn’t tolerate stupid people making rude comments. Hit her site to see what I mean, it’s worth the read.

Another side project of mine is EpicGizmo.com. I’ve had a passion for gadgets and the outdoors since I was 7 and discovered that I could duct tape my sony cassette player to my bike with a modified speaker to create a bike radio. I’ve been slacking on an update lately due to a crazy schedule, but you have time what you make time for. I am going to jump back into that blog as I make time. It was a really fun project to set up and probably the most challenging I’ve encountered yet (or forced upon myself). Header and ico was done by me. The theme was taken from a parent Genesis theme that I got from studio press. Those guys at studio press are awesome. I had the company owner himself contact me after my purchase and thank me. How much more personal can you get on a business transaction from an unknown person? Kudos studio press.

I digress. The site is all about outdoor green gizmos. If you know anyone who wants to help me write, throw my contact at them.  Click the image below to be whooshed away to the site.

This site is near and dear to my heart. Why? Well not only does this site include information about me, but it’s also about my wife and daughter. My wife and I recently redesigned our own site to un-clutter it and give it that open air feeling. The graphic design of course was @Lins610 for the header, button and ico. I’m partial, but I gotta’ say, she did one heck of a job.

We also have a subdomain which Lindsey shares recipes with other mommybloggers (new header and button she created for it)

Neoclassical is another very clean and open theme that I love. Sally wanted all of her posts with her widgets transferred over from blogger to wordpress and all of her peeps redirected from the old site. No problemo. I hooked her up with all the coding and transfering over all the widgets and she found a graphic designer to do up her header. I hooked her up with an ico from her badge image.

She has some intense things going on with her husband being in the military and raising a little one alone most of the time. Hit her site via a single left click on the below image for more.

The mrsandmister was already rocking wordpress, but simply lacked a theme. She needed help and beckoned out on twitter for someone to save her. She wanted simple, but different. We chose the rainbowcircles theme from Themeology (site is under maintenance right now). Again, @Lins610 swooped in and created the header and button for this site.

Click the link below and let her know that NC is first in flight.

I was an Etsy find for Lindsay of lindsayblogs.com.  She simply wanted to convert from blogger to wordpress and had already purchased the PostIt theme from ThemeForest (a great theme site with well priced themes btw).  Other than the theme setup on domain/subdomain, this site was a breeze and Lindsay was awesome to work with.

Hope on over to her site and she what she has to say about the mommy blogosphere.

BringingUpBronwyn was actually a quick little project. The Evidens-White theme I chose for Eileen ended up working well with the feel she wanted to pull off so not a whole lot of modifications were necessary. I designed the header and button with some assistance from @Lins610.

This is one of my favorite designs. Crisp, clean and uncluttered it gives you that open window in spring time feel. I used the elementsofseo wordpress theme, created the header, button and ico files. My wife, @Lins610 helped me out with some of the design since she has a keen eye for graphic layout.

Joanna gave me a few suggestions for what she was looking for and then let me yank the controls. Her daughter’s a riot,  just don’t laugh at her while she ‘dances’ along to the tunes.  Smack the image below with a mouse click to go to her site and check it out.

Krista was one of my first official site setups under Japster, Inc that I did. She was a huge sport about it and went along with all my design decisions on the fly. I modified a free WooTheme, Premiumnews.  The header, button and ico were all created by me as well.  We worked together to reorganize her categories from blogger to wordpress so the layout for her new menu would flow better with the new theme.

Hit the image below to visit the site and read a post or two while you’re at it. Her family is awesome!
